Shooting the West Photo Gallery of Wildshots
& The Photography of Claude Steelman
I never intended to be a photographer; I was going to be a cowboy. For a while I did try cowboying. Well, not real cowboying. I wrangled horses at a dude ranch, and tried to ride bareback broncs at the local Saturday night rodeos. I got bucked off a lot. Even the dude horses bucked me off. I had an old wrangler tell me once, "Steelman, you may not be able to tame a wild horse, but you sure can make a tame horse wild." Eventually I realized my inability to keep a horse between me and the ground did not bode well for my future as a cowboy.
